On February 26-28, 2010, Blackland Prairie District held their second annual Camp-O-Ree.
As is customary for a Camp-O-Ree, there were 40MPH winds that started Friday and did not end until early Saturday morning (around 1:00am). The temperature was in the low 40s, with the wind chill bringing it down further. The wind was wreaking havoc on setting up tents, with some personal belongings getting blown around. Mr. Hines' sleeping bag had disappeared for a while, but he finally found it about 50 yards away from where he set it on the ground.
Revelee was blown at 6:30am, with the flag ceremony starting at 8:45am. That gave over 2 hours for getting everyone up and fed, and allowed for the people running the different stations time to get set up. The first thing we did was start a fire using the wood that Mr. Sands had filled the back of his truck with.
With breakfast complete, it was time to report to the flag ceremony. From there the boys would go to their designated event.
There were a number of events for the boys to compete in.
There were some extra items around the first aid event. It appears the first aid did not arrive in time.
While the boys were at their events, the adults and Leadership Team were holding down the fort back at camp. The boys came back to camp for lunch, then back to the remaining events.
Mr. Zippe found the level of activity a little overwhelming.
The boys decided they needed their own fire pit. We still had more than enough wood.
Time for dinner... There were 40 burgers to cook for 30 people.
Once it got dark, the fire was even more inviting.
