On December 7, 2007, we held our End of Year Court of Honor.
We started with some opening remarks from Mr. Moltz. then Mr. Roucloux prayed for the food. Branch BBQ with all the fixins!
After we finished eating, it was time to start doing merit badges.
Mr. Gibson then shared with the group.
It was then time for Rank Advancements, complete with Mother's Pins.
Next, a new scout joined the Troop.
Some awards were passed out to adults who have been helping the Troop.
Mr. Hood began his Scoutmaster Minute. Those "in the know" will remember that Mr. Hood challenged the boys at the Matagorda Days Festival, where the Troop set up the Pinewood Derby track. The Scouts all brought their old Pinewood Derby cars for the children of Matagorda to use in the races, and Mr. Hood brought his. The challenge put forth by Mr. Hood was that any boy who had a car that was able to beat his at Matagorda Days would have the option of either having Mr. Hood do all the scout's chores at a campout or put a pie in Mr. Hood's face at this Court of Honor.
Two boys had cars that succeeded in beating Mr. Hood's car in a race. One of those two boys elected to have Mr. Hood do all his work at the last campout (set up tent, cooking, take down his tent, etc). The second boy selected the "pie in the face" option, which he chose to do just as Mr. Hood began his Scoutmaster Minute by sneaking up behind him...
For those who weren't there, the winning Scout who delivered the pie would be none other than Mr. Hood's own son.
The Court of Honor came to a close as Mr. Hines shared a story about his younger days, and then put a pile of pocket knives on the table for the boys to purchase, 25 cents each, one knife per boy, with the boys lined up by rank, Eagles first.
